Today, more and more college students are taking six years to complete their degree programs and there are several reasons for this.
One reason students are spending six years in college is the fact that many students transfer between schools and they find that many of their classes will be transfer-forcing them to re-take classes.
Another common reason is the fact that schools demand students take a series of general education classes in addition to the classes required for their majors. Due to limited faculty, students sometimes cannot get into the classes that they must take, forcing them to sign on for an additional year or two. Some students are also so badly advised that they fail to take courses that are required of them in order to graduate.
If you wish to speed up your college degree program then try not to transfer between schools. Also be sure to keep in very close contact with your college advisers so you know exactly what courses you need to take in order to graduate on time. College is far too expensive already and you certainly want to avoid attending for another year or two if you can avoid it.
