The economic crisis impacts all sectors of society and our schools are not immune to the negative effects of the ailing economy.

Many schools have been forced to cut the number of teachers they employ due to budget cuts. When teachers are in short supply, it means that the individual classrooms become over-populated with students. When there are too many students in one classroom, those students who cannot keep up with the work are often the victims, as the teacher simply does not have time to work individually with every slow student.

Many school districts have had their food budgets cut due to reduced budgets. This means that they may have to buy sub-standard food that may not have the high nutritional value that is necessary for growing children. If children are not being properly nourished, they cannot learn at their full potential.

When a school’s budget is cut, they are not always able to afford purchasing the latest textbooks and other up-to-date materials that will help their students get the most out of their education.

The economic crisis could have far-reaching effects on our schools even after the current situation is solved.
