Having a good sense of self esteem is very important in today’s job market. Competition is tough in all sectors and by feeling good about yourself and your abilities, you can improve your chances of landing that perfect job.
If you have earned a college degree then you have accomplished a great deal already. In order to move into the working world, you have to display to prospective employers that you are confident and will provide them with knowledge and experience.
If you are confident in your abilities, you greatly increase your chances of both being hired in the first place and then getting promotions as you prove your worth to them. No employer will hire a person who is too timid and unsure of themselves. They need to know that you are capable of performing your duties and responsibilities without too much guidance or supervision once you know what they are.
Keep in mind that most open positions have many people applying for them. If you can show that you are confident that you can meet or exceed the employers needs and expectations, you will almost surely get the position over any other applicants that lack the same confidence.
Be sure not to confuse confidence with arrogance however, because being arrogant or over-confident can be a real deal breaker for hiring managers. Most people know the difference between the two and can show their worth to the company without over-selling themselves. Be sure to mention that you love to learn and accept new challenges and that you believe in your ideas and are not afraid to share them with others.
