It has been discovered that students with learning disabilities often have a difficult time in retaining information that is provided in a traditional classroom setting and that these students benefit from the unlimited availability of information that is available when taking online classes.

That being said, does online learning benefit other kinds of disabilities?

Students with physical disabilities could benefit greatly by taking their college classes online. Campus facilities can be difficult to get around for the physically challenged individual. Most college campuses are large, and there often is a lot of ground to cover to get from one building to another in a very short period of time between classes.

If a student cannot take his own notes in class due to a disability, he often is forced to hire a note taker for him. When this same student takes a course online in the comfort of his own home, he can use the computer to take the necessary notes.

If you are one of the many students who has a disability, rest assured that online programs have taken great strides over the past few years to cater to the needs of the individual student. It is very likely that you will be able to find the perfect online program that will take your disability into consideration, allowing you to obtain the education you desire and are entitled to.

Taking classes online is very different from sitting in a college campus classroom. You must be a self-driven individual to take classes online and must enjoy sitting for long periods of time at the computer. When you work online towards a college degree, you will be working alone much of the time, and will not have the benefits of daily, face-to-face contact with other students who are studying the same courses as you.

When taking courses online, you also must be a disciplined person. You will have to stick to an outline and set and meet daily and weekly goals in order to keep up with the pace of the course.

When you take campus courses, you get much more feedback from your instructors as well as from fellow students whom you sit in class with, walk to class with, and maybe even socialize with on campus. It is easier for many people to choose to take courses on-campus for these very reasons. A great many students feel that they benefit greatly from the personal interaction with the course instructors and fellow students.

There are also great benefits to taking courses online. You can work in the comfort of your own home, and it is often cheaper to study online. You do not have to pay travel costs back and forth to campus, or pay for room and board. You are also able to do the work when you have the time to do it. For instance, if you work during the day, you can do your online course work in the evenings after you get home from a day at the office.

There are obvious benefits to taking classes online and to attending campus classes. The choice is up to each and every student.

Students, adults and busy professionals that are taking online courses to eventually obtain a college degree or professional certification often find it difficult to set aside time for their studies.

Online courses allow you to work at your own pace from virtually any location. Most people work on their online coursework from home in the evenings after a busy day at work, spending time with their family and putting their children to bed.

This can be a very difficult situation to manage when you have a lot of tasks to juggle between your family, career and education. Even single students with no children will at times find it challenging to make time for their online classes. The number of things an individual needs to accomplish on a given day can often take longer to complete than the amount of time they plan to take accomplishing them.

It is very important to make your online classes a priority in your life and to schedule time to study and complete your assignments. You should designate a quiet place in your home for working on your online degree that is free of distractions.

Just remember your educational goals and how your life will benefit from completing your online degree or certification program whether you are taking courses for personal fulfillment, to boost your career and earn more income or to finish the degree you had to put on hold and are now getting around to completing. Whatever your reasons, an education is an invaluable asset that can enrich your mind, your economic status and your awareness and understanding of the world around you.

If you are making student loan payments, you can deduct some of the interest that you have paid on the student loan. The deductions work as an adjustment to your reported income on your federal tax form. If you have paid interest on your qualified student loan, you can deduct up to $2,000 of the interest paid.

A qualified loan is a loan that was taken to pay for the cost of tuition, fees, living expenses, transportation, supplies and equipment expenses. This would make nearly all federal and private education loans eligible for this kind of deduction. Private student loans do not qualify automatically.

However, if you send the lender of your private loan a W-9S form, the interest that you paid on that private loan would then be eligible for a deduction.

The W-9 is a form from the Internal Revenue Service that certifies that those funds were used only for educational purposes, such as those mentioned above.

If you paid interest on a qualified student loan, you can deduct up to $2,000 as stated earlier. The deduction is reduced as your income increases-starting at $40,000 for a single filer and $60,000 for joint filers.

More and more families are applying for financial aid, and in January of this year, applications were already up 10 percent above 2008’s record. Funding for private student loans is becoming sparse and families are finding it difficult to find available financial aid. The value of homes is dwindling, making it difficult for people to get a home equity loan and many private lenders are no longer giving out student loans.

Although the financial atmosphere is dismal, students and their parents can take advantage of expanded federal financial aid offers. The U.S. Department of Education has recently made $95 billion in loans, grants and work study assistance available to 11 million students and families. The U.S. Congress has increased borrowing limits for Stafford student loans by $2,000.

Students do have several more options in spite of the tough times. By filling out the FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, students can take the most important step in the right direction. The FAFSA is required in order to become eligible for federal student financial aid, like the Pell Grant.

Students can also apply for a scholarship that is tailored to their skills and majors. Adults who want to return to school are also eligible for many scholarships, such as those scholarships for single parents.

The Lifetime Learning Credit is a tax credit available to any student who attends college. It will give you a tax credit of up to $2,000 on your first $10,000 of tuition and college fees. You can claim this credit on your tax return if you, your spouse or your dependents are attending an eligible college and if you were responsible for paying the college expenses. You can take this credit even if you took just one class.

All colleges and universities that are accredited are eligible institutions. Vocational schools and other post-secondary institutions are eligible also. If the learning institution is eligible to partake in federal student aid programs through the Department of Education, then you can use the fees and tuition paid to the school for claiming the Lifetime Learning Credit.

The only qualifying expenses are the monies paid for tuition and fees. They do not include books, supplies, room and board, insurance, student health costs, living or transportation costs. You must be the one who is responsible for paying the tuition and fees.

When figuring your tax credit, you must reduce your qualifying expenses you received via scholarships, grants or reimbursements made by your employer. However, you do not need to reduce your qualifying expenses if you paid the tuition using borrowed money or by using gifts you received from family members.
