How do you know that the education provided by institutions of higher education you choose meets acceptable levels of quality? Fortunately, there is a way to tell if you are getting the quality degree you’re looking for. Accrediting agencies were formed to keep the standards of learning programs in line.
The United States does not have a solitary governing body responsible for evaluating each university and education program in the country. Therefore, accrediting agencies, which are private educational associations of regional or national scale develop evaluation criteria and conduct peer evaluations to assess whether or not those criteria are met. If the institutions and/or programs meet an agency’s criteria are then they are “accredited” by that agency.
The series of educational qualifications may include program curriculum, outlines and objectives, instructional materials and testing materials, learning resources, and proof of adequate record keeping.
